Almost all hands-on projects undertaken by UKSEDS members are run by our branches. We therefore offer funding to branches in order to support these activities in the form of a Branch Project Grant.

Student Unions are more willing to support existing society activities which have a successful record. The grant aims to provide branches with the funds to start new projects and expand existing ones so that they can more easily obtain alternative funding in the future.

Award
The award is for a maximum of 50% of costs up to £250 as evidenced by receipts. There is no maximum total pot for each year. Funding is provided from UKSEDS’ general funds and has no specific source.

Criteria
Preference will be given to applications which:

  • Benefit the most people, with a greater weighting given to students over the general public.
  • Provide participants with new skills, especially those that are not provided elsewhere.
  • Incorporate a novel idea or build on a previous project undertaken by another UKSEDS branch.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be registered UKSEDS branches.
  • Be starting a new project or expanding the scope of an existing one.
  • Provide UKSEDS with a detailed plan for their project.

Conditions

All successful applicants must agree to:

  • Provide UKSEDS with regular updates on the status of their project, including photos where appropriate.
  • Promote UKSEDS and include UKSEDS branding on relevant project and branch materials.
  • Write-up the project on its conclusion, providing advice and resources to enable others to engage in a similar project in the future.

Application
Applications will open soon.

Deadline
There is no deadline for applications, they are considered on a rolling basis.

UKSEDS Branch Project Grant Guidance

There is no required format for the project plan, but it should include the following:

  • A description of the project including how you intend to carry it out (demonstrating that it is technically feasible).
  • A list of equipment required and a reasonable estimate of the cost, as well as detailing other potential or existing sources of funding.
  • If additional help is required (e.g. access to facilities, licence etc) details of how this will be obtained.
  • An outline of how you will share your project with the wider community (This could be talking to or involving local schools/scouts etc., blog/website/Twitter, talking on local radio…use your imagination).
  • How you could potentially cooperate with other branches and their members, and the benefit the project brings to UKSEDS nationally
  • A list of any potential risks if any e.g. safety issues, not getting required licence etc.
  • Contact details – including a main and secondary contact with an email address and phone number for each.

As a rough guide we would not expect the plan to be more than three sides of A4.
