The UK’s space launch sector is expanding rapidly, with several spaceports under development and licensed to support both orbital and sub-orbital missions. This growing infrastructure has spurred the emergence of new rocket companies aiming to meet the increasing demand for reliable, domestic launch services.
UKSEDS created the National Rocketry Championship with the aim of providing university students and apprentices who have had no or limited experience in the field of rocketry hands-on experience designing, building and launching a rocket. In partnership with the United Kingdom Rocketry Association, we are delighted to host a competition day at Midlands Rocketry Club.
Teams are challenged with designing, building and launching a mid-power rocket with the primary goal of reaching an apogee of 2500ft. Motor selection will be limited to ensure a fair competition between teams. Teams must also have a payload on their rocket, to be more accurate to real rocket launches. Teams will also be required to submit technical reports detailing their designs.
Founded in 2013, the National Rocketry Championship is our oldest competition. Given it is, therefore, built on a strong foundation of documentation, it comes at no surprise that it is UKSEDS’ most popular competition. After all, who doesn’t think rockets are a fun hobby!
