Launched at the UKSEDS National Student Space Conference 2014 (NSSC2014) on Saturday 1 March, the call for abstracts to the IAC UK Student Paper Competition is now open (see previous announcement for details). The deadline for submission of abstract is fast approaching – Friday 18th April. As announced at the NSSC2014, UKSEDS are supporting the undergraduate entry with an additional 500GBP funding to attend this prestigious event (see below).
Organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), the annual International Astronautical Congress (IAC) is the world’s largest astronautics/space engineering conference. This year the IAC will be in Toronto, Canada from 29 September to 3 October.
At each IAC, there is a student paper competition with prizes for best papers/presentations. Papers may be on any subject related to space sciences, industry or technology and must be the work of the author(s) (no more than two students). There are two categories, undergraduate and postgraduate. For both of these you must not have been older than 28 on the 1st of January this year.
The national selection for the two UK entrants is carried out by the British Interplanetary Society (BIS) Space Education and Outreach Committee (BIS-SEOC).
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to the London on Saturday 14 June to present at a joint BIS/UKSEDS event. Each category winner will represent the UK in Toronto and receive a cheque after presenting at the IAC for the following amounts:
- Undergraduate: 1000GBP (500GBP BIS + 500GBP UKSEDS)
- Postgraduate: 500GBP
