European Planetary Science Congress 2013

On Tuesday 10th – Thursday 12th September 2013, ex-committee members Damian Rumble and Maggie Lieu represented UKSEDS at The European Planetary Science Congress 2013 (EPSC 2013) held at UCL, London. The event spanned a whole week of space related talks – everything from planetary modelling to astrobiology, and saw appearances from MarsOne and Virgin galactic.

UKSEDS were kindly offered a stand at the careers tent where we displayed our ever popular outreach activity ‘Identify the meteorites’. The opportunity to learn about some of our rarer meteorite samples (including Mars regolith and asteroid Vesta) attracted a wide variety of audience inside and outside of academia.

On Wednesday we took part in careers speed dating and gave tips on university at a PhD level. The event was a great success for reaching out to age groups and scientific backgrounds that are very different in comparison to our past outreach events and it was a good opportunity for networking with space industry personnel.
