Location


The University of Leicester is a world class institution with a long and distinguished record of discovery in space science.

The conference will be held at the University's Stamford Court Conference Centre. The address for the centre is: Manor Road, Oadby, Leicester, LE2 2LH.

Stamford Court is situated in a leafy suburb of Leicester, approximately 3 miles (~50 minutes walk) from the City Centre, and 2 miles (~40 minutes walk) from the University of Leicester campus. We offer accommodation on-site at Stamford Court (see below) for maximum convenience. Delegates who prefer to stay in hotels or guest houses closer to the city may wish or need to take a bus or taxi to the conference centre.

Transport

Air Travel

The closest airport is East Midlands airport. The Skylink Bus Service to/from the airport runs 24-hours a day, running every 30 minutes during the day and every hour throughout the night, seven days a week. No need to prebook.

Birmingham International airport is much bigger and is only one hour on the train to Leicester. Check National Rail for train times.

Train

The nearest train station to the University is Leicester Train Station, which is well connected to London and other major cities such as Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield. Many hotels and guest houses are situated within walking distance of the station.

Car

Leicester is well connected to the M1 motorway to the west of the city and connects to Northampton, Luton and London to the south, and Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield to the north. Birmingham is to the west via the M6 and M69. Leicester is also within easy reach of Cambridge, Peterborough and Grantham to the east.

The Conference Centre postcode is LE2 2LH. Entering this into Google Maps or your GPS unit will bring you to Manor Road, Oadby, where the Stamford Court Conference Centre is located.

Coach

Leicester is well connected with coaches between major cities in the UK. These enter and leave from St Margaret’s Coach station. You can connect to London from as little as £6 with special offers with National Express. You can also connect with the X7 between Leicester and Northampton.

Travel from Accommodation to the Conference Centre

Delegates staying in Stamford Court accommodation are already on-site and can walk to the conference room. For those people staying in accommodation elsewhere in Leicester, the following options are available.

Bus

Arriva is the major public bus operator in Leicester. Information on timetables and services can be found at their website. A Leicester network map can be found here. A typical day-ticket around Leicester costs £4.20.

The best service for accessing the Stamford Court conference centre is the No. 31 bus, which can be taken from the town centre and train station and various other points along a route which goes through the city and close to the Conference Centre.

We recommend that delegates taking this service get off the bus at Oadby Glebe Road, from which there is a 10-14 minute walk to Stamford Court.

Uber operate in the city, and may provide a very cost-effective option for transport to and from the conference centre particularly if several people can share.
