Heidi Thiemann | The Open University / Space Skills Alliance

Heidi Thiemann

Heidi is an astronomer in the School of Physical Sciences at The Open University in Milton Keynes. She is in the third year of her PhD, working on identifying and characterising near-contact binary stars in the SuperWASP all-sky survey, and travelling to use telescopes across the world. Heidi led SpaceCareers.uk for 2 years, and has recently set up a new think tank, the Space Skills Alliance, to tackle the skills shortage in the space industry. Over the summer, she is also a Senior Mentor at Space School UK, sharing the excitement of space with school children.

Dr Samanther Lavender | Pixalytics

Samanther Lavender

Dr Samantha Lavender is Managing Director of Pixalytics Ltd with over 20 years of research experience focusing on the use of satellite Earth observation to help answer questions about our planet’s resources and behaviour. She has always been a scientist who is interested in learning and collaborating across a range of different interests, developing products for a broad community of users including being an author of the ‘Practical Handbook in Remote Sensing’. Activities support marine monitoring, water resources management and landscape assessment including UK Space Agency International Partnership Programme projects focused on droughts & floods in Uganda and agriculture in Colombia.
