The conference will be held at the University of Sheffield (campus map), which can be accessed from either Western Bank or Glossop Road

Registration, the careers fair, networking, and keynotes will take place in the Students’ Union building (120 on the campus map, Student Union floor plan). Lectures will be held across the underpass in the Alfred Denny Building in LT01 and LT02. (111 on the campus map)

Travel Grants

Limited travel subsidies (up to 50%) are available, for UKSEDS members and branch groups travelling more than 150 miles. To apply, fill in this form before 1 February 2016

Preference will be given to those who can bring the most people for the least amount of money. We also advise trying to work together with other UKSEDS branches, and investigate potential funding from your union.

By Bus

A number of regular bus services stop at or near the University. The most frequent of these are the 51, 52 and 95 from the city centre and the 120 from Sheffield Transport Interchange.

The Sheffield Transport Interchange is located 2 Minutes walk from the main entrance of the Railway Station.

Student tickets cost £1.

By Train

Sheffield is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St. Pancras (from just over 2 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour).

From the Station

Bus: The 120 goes via the University from the Sheffield Transport Interchange, which is 2 minutes walk from the railway station.

Taxi: There is a taxi rank at the railway station. The journey to the University should only take 5-10 minutes, but can take 15-20 minutes if traffic is heavy. Expect to pay around £5.

Tram: There is a direct link from the railway station to the Sheffield Station Supertram stop via the main overbridge. Tram tickets cost £1.50.

By Coach

National Express operates a comprehensive coach service from most parts of the country to Sheffield Transport Interchange, Pond Street. The fastest service to London takes about 3.5 hours.

Megabus coaches connect to destinations worldwide from Meadowhall Interchange, which is about four miles from Sheffield city centre. You can get a bus or train from Meadowhall back into Sheffield city centre or a tram direct to the University.

By Car

The postcode for the main University building on Western Bank, Firth Court, is S10 2TN

There are three nearby carparks which do not require tickets on weekends: Arts Tower, Hounsfield Rd, and Brunswick Street. They are indicated on the map above.

From M1, M18

Approach Sheffield on the M1 and leave the motorway at junction 33, following signs along the dual carriageway A630/A57/A61 Parkway.

After entering the 40mph zone, turn right onto the Ring Road at junction 1 – Cutlers Gate.

Continue along the Ring Road following signs for 'University of Sheffield', 'Barnsley A61' and later 'Glossop A57', through junctions 10, 9, 8 and 7.

At junction 7 – Shalesmoor – turn left and continue uphill along the Ring Road, still following signs for 'University of Sheffield' and 'Glossop A57'.

Continue along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout – junction 6 – University Square. Take the third exit for the main Western Bank part of the campus.

From Manchester and the west

(via M60 and A628 Woodhead Pass) Leave the M60 (east) at junction 24 – signed 'Sheffield'. Continue following the 'Sheffield' signs along the M67 and the A628 Woodhead Pass.

Join the A616 and follow signs for 'M1' and 'Sheffield A616' for 10 miles. At the roundabout, follow signs for 'Sheffield (North) A61' and later 'City Centre A61' for seven miles, passing through Grenoside and Hillsborough.

At the Ring Road roundabout – junction 7 Shalesmoor – turn right onto the Ring Road, following signs for 'University of Sheffield' and 'Glossop A57'.

Continue along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout – junction 6 – University Square. Take the third exit for the main Western Bank part of the campus.

By Air

Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and Nottingham East Midlands airports are all about an hour's travel time from Sheffield. Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster is around 30 minutes away by car.
