Hacking Space!

UKSEDS’ hackathon, terra_Nova, is returning for its second year! This time around the event will take place virtually over the weekend of October 15th - 17th, with teams of up to six competing in one of several space challenges.

The theme of this year’s hackathon is sustainability. As the UK space industry undergoes rapid growth, it’s important to consider how the sector can contribute to the fight against the climate crisis and remain sustainable itself. The winning submissions for each challenge will be showcased by UKSEDS at COP26, the UN’s 2021 global climate summit, to demonstrate both the contribution of the UK to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the innovation of its students and young professionals.

terra_Nova will provide an interdisciplinary experience, giving students from all disciplines the chance to take part; the problems faced by professionals in the space industry aren’t exclusively programming or engineering related, and individuals from non-STEM backgrounds are just as important in overcoming the hurdles to sustainability. Depending on your level of technical experience, or where your interests lie, there will be a variety of challenges to select from and work on over the course of the event.
