We are starting to put together some information on how to fund your project. This is very much a work in progress. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or comments on projects@ukseds.org .
Outreach Grants
The easiest way to get funding seems to be to include an outreach programme as part of your project and apply for funding for this. Your University may well have small grants available for outreach, so check with them first. Here are some other sources of funding.
Science in Society Small Awards: Awards range from £500 to £10,000 and the expenditure can go towards materials, salaries and travel & subsistence.
Holmes Hines Memorial Fund: Small funds. Most relevent if you work with schools.
Equipment
It seems to be easier to obtain equipment from companies rather than cash.
1. Make a list of all the equipment you need
2. For each item list the companies that supply it
3. Work your way through the list of companies asking if they would be willing to donate the item for a student project. If you have a website then you can offer to include their logo as a sponsor.
