Competition FAQ
Do I have to be a UKSEDS members to enter?
No. The competition is open to any student (be that school, sixth form, college, undergraduate or graduate level) who studies in or is from the UK.
Can I do a presentation on XYZ?
Sure, we’re open to anything as long as it is related to Space in some way and it roughly fits into one of the 8 themes detailed above. Presentations that are related to the main Conference theme of ‘The New Space Economy’ will be looked favourably on however, and we also want them to be accessible, so nothing overly technical or niche please.
Can I just submit an abstract from a paper I have written?
If you want, but we will not look favourably on it. This a conference centred around presentations on broader ideas, concepts, visions and perspectives rather than technical details.
What do you want to see in the abstract?
The abstract should set out the theme and main points to your presentation, and could include how it would relate to the wider theme of the conference.
Do I have to write a full 300 word abstract?
No. 300 words is a maximum limit so we don’t spend days reading through all the entries. If you feel you can provide a good overview in 100 words, excellent! In fact being concise is a positive, as you only have 10 minutes in which to present if you get selected.
Do I have to specify which parallel I want to present in?
It is up to you. If you feel your presentation would only suit a particular parallel theme, then specify that. However if you are not sure, or think it could apply to a few different parallel themes state that and we’ll consider it for all of them.
Have you got any more details on the parallel themes?
A small abstract detailing each theme is available over on the main UKSC 2011 Website here.
When will you announce the selection?
We aim to inform those that are successful on the 9th June 2011.
